Mikrotec Corporate History
Mikrotec Internet Service began in 1994 as a Lexington – based Internet Service Provider (ISP). Mikrotec adopted a core business focus of providing high quality Internet access to central Kentucky and surrounding areas.
East Kentucky Internet began in the summer of 1995, to fulfill the need for dependable Internet service in the Floyd and Pike County areas of Eastern Ky.
In January of 1999 the two companies merged to become the new Mikrotec Internet Service, an affiliate of Gearheart Communications Inc., which now has nationwide dial up service. Mikrotec offers connections to the World Wide Web, email, newsgroups, and unrivaled tech support services.
Mikrotec has an extensive multi-state network and is homed in three locations in the state of Kentucky. We maintain four separate connections to NAP’s (National Access Points) in the South and Midwest. Mikrotec is connected to the telephone network via OC12 fiber optics using Verizon’s DUAL Sonet Ring. We use state of the art servers and routers from Sun, DEC, and Cisco. Mikrotec is a full service network offering high speed connectivity through dedicated lines, in addition to our nationwide dial up service.
